R.I.P Seve

My modern day golf heroes are Lee Westwood (of course he is a Notts lad after all) and Ian Poulter cause I like his style. These guys are awesome and will no doubt go on to be revered by many in time. But to achieve true legendary status in the game you have that, to coin a phrase, the X factor, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player all had it but one man who had it in abundance was Seve Ballesteros.

I was not even born when Seve turned pro back in 74' and was only one when he became the first European to win The Masters and to be honest I never really saw him play live even on the TV my joy of Seve came from watching highlights of his career when I was older and began to love this game of Golf.

The tributes have been pouring in from Pro's to Celebs with the common theme of what a amazing character Seve was and how he could not just light up a room but an entire golf course with his smile. That is a testament to a man and that is where his legendary status comes from. He played with a smile on his face even when things were not going right (come on guys and gals anyone that plays knows how hard it can be to keep smiling after a nightmare hole) and that set him apart!

Despite being a Golf superstar during my Dad's era of watching Golf he still manges to inspire new golfers today.

Its a sad sad day indeed, but we will always have the moments of magic he produced on the golf course.

Rest In Peace Seve Ballesteros.
